Sinopsis del Libro

Charles Taylor es probablemente -junto a su amigo e interlocutor, Jürgen Habermas- uno de los filósofos más influyentes de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Ágil, vivaz y enérgico, su pensamiento forma parte de los grandes clásicos de la historia del pensamiento filosófico occidental. Su naturaleza comprometida -que le llevó a participar en la política quebequense en su juventud- y su significativa contribución -no siempre justamente comprendida- en el debate entre comunitarismo y liberalismo en la década de los noventa contribuyeron a que Taylor fuese identificando como uno de los padres teóricos del comunitarismo. Sin embargo, su filosofía trasciende notablemente esta identificación, porque se trata de una filosofía comprometida con el ser humano y los temas que le atañen íntimamente. El bien, la comunidad y la trascendencia -ética, política y religión- son las claves interpretativas a través de las que Taylor piensa y reconstruye la entidad moderna. Y, en cada uno de estos ámbitos, se esfuerza en elaborar una filosofía cargada de valores, significados y sentimientos. En el intento de descargar toda la fuerza significativa del mundo que nos rodea, Taylor recupera la función originaria de la filosofía -la búsqueda de significados- y la lleva a su máxima expresión configurando una filosofía sustantiva y de carácter eminentemente práctico. Como se defiende en este ensayo, la filosofía de Taylor bien puede entenderse como una suerte de reencantamiento del mundo moderno. Sonia E. Rodríguez García es doctora por la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, España. Trabaja en esta misma institución como Profesora Ayudante Doctora en el Dpto. Filosofía y Filosofía Moral y Política, en la que imparte asignaturas del área de la filosofía de la religión. Su trabajo de investigación, diseminado en revistas nacionales e internacionales, abarca cuestiones éticas, políticas y del ámbito de la religión de actualidad.
