En este libro, el autor explora la construccion de la nacionalidad a traves de los deportes. Analiza dimensiones sociales y culturales de clase que estan reflejadas en las practicas deportivas; toma tres figuras predominantes de epocas distintas: Juan Manuel Gangio, campeon mundial del automovilismo; Carlos Monzon, boxeador, y Diego Armando Maradona, los tres salidos de estratos sociales marginados, y da cuenta de la heterogeneidad que el pais ha sabido albergar, y de la complejidad moral y social que lo atraviesa.
