Biografía de José HernáNdez

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro Biografía de José HernáNdez

Martin Fierro, the argentine poem, has been subject to numerous ideology biased interpretations. This appropriation, sometimes outrageous, has spurred the discussion whether Martin Fierro or Domingo F. Sarmiento's Facundo should be considered in orderto bring the Argentine society into a just, peaceful civil terrain. To read Quiroga Lavie's biography of Jose Hernandez means delving into the mind of an earnest, law abiding scholar, that nevertheless falls into the same trap of romanticizing the roguish characteristics with complete disregard of the fact that Martin Fierro's advise to his sons, along his eldest son experience in jail, constitute a clear lesson and plead to abide by the law. It is true that Jose Hernandez was a political man, however, and in spite of the author's own experience, Martin Fierro is more the racconto of a man's growth into civilization -including some denunciations of bigotry and abuse of the law- than a clear cut elegy of a "noble savage." To read Martin Fierro and Quiroga Lavie's work is a good way of understanding the forces that difficult Argentina's possibilities of becoming a reliably predictable society.

THE EXCLUSIVE SINNER

Libro THE EXCLUSIVE SINNER

This is a story of a boy raised in an extreme ultra-strict Protestant family, members of “the Exclusive Brethren”. From an early age, James found he was at war with his family and the Brethren. Nothing that would be considered normal was acceptable. This book details his experiences growing up in this family, showing his struggles and confusions. It tells of the Brethren’s involvement in his love affair and how the family put an end to his marriage because he had slept with his fiancée. It outlines his escape from the Brethren while he was working in a large London hospital. The book...

Primo Levi

Libro Primo Levi

It's a pretty long story, Primo Levi tells a classroom of children, so I'll try to make it simple. This hauntingly illustrated comic tells the story of the Italian Jewish chemist who survived the camps at Auschwitz against all odds. Matteo Mastragostino draws on historical research, interviews, and Levi's own landmark books to piece together a fictionalized yet profoundly intimate portrait of a courageous figure. In the scene that emerges, Levi visits a group of schoolchildren to retell his life story and keep the memory of the Holocaust alive, answering innocent questions with hard truths....
