On the occasion of the feminist polemic that took place in the first decades of the twentieth century, the Madrilenian journalist, Margarita Nelken (1894-1968), advocated the reform of those judicial norms and social uses that, for their androcentric perspective, discriminated against Spanish women. In order to improve the feminine condition and, hence, to balance the relations of power between both sexes, she promoted the intellectual and technical formation of women, their incorporation into the work market, their economic independence and their moral and political emancipation with respect to the male. Despite having such a large amount of acquired knowledge, after being elected a Member of Parliament in 1931, she hardly projected her political activity in the safeguard of feminist interests, giving precedence to other classes of objectives, such as the social revolution according to the communist model and the defence of the Republic during the Civil War.
