La obra presenta una selección de cien biografías de relevantes científicos cubanos ya fallecidos que vivieron en la Isla o dedicaron su vida a investigaciones realizadas en nuestro territorio. Contempla desde los orígenes de la ciencia en Cuba hasta el año 2000.

André Weil (1906-1998), eminente matemático, ingresó en la Escuela Normal Superior de París a los dieciséis años y fue profesor en Europa y en la India hasta 1939. Participó en la fundación del grupo Nicolas Bourbaki, que revolucionó las matemáticas modernas. Fue profesor en la Universidad de Princeton desde 1958. Simone Weil (1909-1943), hermana menor de André, fue también alumna de la ENS y profesora de filosofía a partir de 1931. Vinculada al sindicalismo revolucionario, abandonó la enseñanza para trabajar como obrera industrial. Tomó parte en la guerra civil española....
