El libro lleva a los lectores por un recorrido histórico, desde la llegada de los conquistadores con sus caballos, hasta los días que corren. Muestra la evolución de los equinos y de las maneras de montar con las consiguientes modificaciones no solo morfológicas en los animales, sino en la fabricación de monturas y aperos a lo largo de los siglos y a lo ancho de esta América modelada e independizada a lomo de caballo y de mula.

En 1821 y no 1810 (como actualmente conmemoramos los mexicanos), se obtiene la añorada independencia, después de tres siglos de colonización española.
