El 7 de octubre de 1985, Puerto Rico conocio lo que fue la Comunidad Mameyes en Ponce. Un enorme deslizamiento de terrenos destruyo gran parte de dicha comunidad y enterro vivos a un sinnumero de personas. En el lugar se construyo un monumento.
